Children's Safety Testing
With the increased interest in the safety of Children's Fancy Dress costumes, we have obtained statements from our suppliers regarding their Safety Testing Procedures and compliance with the EN71 Safety Standards Requirements.
Children's Fancy Dress costumes from reputable manufacturers are safety tested to stringently high flammability standards—EN71 Part 2, and all the Manufacturers/Suppliers we buy our costumes from at Funzone Fancy Dress & Dancewear have issued comprehensive statements regarding their Safety Testing Standards, which are available for our customers to read should they want to do so (see below for details).
Costumes purchased from some internet sites and private home based sellers that may have imported them direct from factories abroad, despite showing an EU CE mark of conformity, may not have been through the same testing procedures or not have been tested at all, especially if they are cheap fakes or counterfeit goods.
BUT more worrying is the fact that ordinary children's clothing including SCHOOL UNIFORM, FOOTBALL KITS, BROWNIE UNIFORMS and some underwear DO NOT have to be flammability tested at all! So in theory, it could be argued that children's fancy dress could be safer than their school clothes.
Of course, it should go without saying that naked flames are a no-no whenever children are likely to have any access to them whatsoever and there are many different battery operated candles available that are a safe and very effective alternative for Halloween lighting.
